Do punishments always fit the crime?
This topic is always in the news.
Does the color of our skin play a role in how we are judged by a court of law?
Or, is it just karma?
Maybe those of us who consistently catch bad breaks in life are suffering from generational curses. Hmmmmm.
Or maybe....just maybe... we are given assignments in life. Maybe these assignments are "TESTS." Tests that turn into "TESTIMONIES."
You see....many of us get off to a bad start.
You may suffer from drug addiction, bad decisions, alcoholism, or you may simply be a product of your environment.
I was a product of my environment and life kicked my ass in the beginning.
My teenage years were brutal.
Free from prison at 19, but found it hard to be happy.
No one understood.
I was frustrated and humiliated.
Each time I tried to apply for a job...there was that dreaded question: Have you ever been convicted of a felony?
Damn! I might as well get a tattoo across my forehead. The Scarlet F...
Yes, I AM A FELON.
But, I'm not a criminal.
I'm not a menace to society. But society has labeled me as one. Forever.
What did that do to me? Glad you asked! It made me work hard. I became an over achiever. I became competitive. I worked myself sick to prove the system wrong. Mentally...it messed with me.
I put on a smile. Hiding the fact the it hurt.
It hurt my pride.
The finger pointing and chatter behind my back almost broke me.
But, know what I believe? I believe that whatever doesn't kill you, makes you STRONGER!
I believe...it ain't how you start...it's how you FINISH. No matter what...FINISH STRONG!
Your past does not have to dictate your future. And, you should tell your story...the good, the bad, and the ugly. Someone needs to hear it. No one on this planet has lived the life you've lived.
Embrace your set backs, your struggles, your bad decisions and every single tear. It may not look like it while you're going through it, but what's meant for evil, always turns to good!
But, it's up to you. For me, writing a book was the best gift to myself. The process was cathartic and allowed me to heal.
I'm a survivor!!!!!!
I am a victor, not a victim of the broken judicial system. I proved them wrong!
Speak what you want into existence. Don't be afraid to ask the universe for what you want. I know your mama taught you: Closed mouths don't get fed!
No matter what you've been through, NEVER COUNT YOURSELF OUT. Everyday is a new day to get it right!
